Statistics and Learning programming are quite uncommon in the nursing study. We teach a very little number of hours for Biostatistics subjects which are not enough for data analysis. We are well known that data analysis is a must-have part of any research (Though statisticians can do your job sometimes you will be needed somewhere to do so as well).
I am going to write about the importance of learning Statistics and the most common programming, needed for Nursing higher study-
1. Research is mandatory for any kind of higher study so it will need your data analysis skill
2. If you know to program, you can be way forward than other applicants in higher study or getting any scholarship
3. During your Ph.D. or M.Sc., you will have to do your empirical research most of the time and Statistics will help you to guide in a right way
4. If you know statistics and programming from your undergrad, it will save your tons of time during post-graduation
Most common Programming/Software used in Nursing data analysis
1. SAS programming - (Advance level for the nursing student but you will be benefited in future)
2. R- (It is recommended because it is free and you can do your big data analysis here)
3. SPSS
4. MS Office (mandatory)
